Let’s go over some things

lets-go-over-some-things

First off, I apologize for the site being down…again. I’ll talk about that in another post later, there are more important things to say right now. Happy Holidays! I hope everyone enjoys their holiday of choice and if you have insane people in your family I hope that you don’t have to deal with them for very long. I quite enjoy the holidays myself as my family usually doesn’t go crazy trying to be festive and just enjoys a quiet day of eating yummy food and playing with our presents. One thing I’m experiencing for the first time is work-related. My jobs for the past…probably about 2 years have been crappy and though I liked some of my coworkers I hated everything else about the job. Whatever my employers did for the holidays for their employees was usually meager and not all that enjoyable (though I received my first bonus of a whole $25 at one place). Here though, we’ve been celebrating a lot. It’s really nice to feel appreciated and want to go to a bar with your coworkers and get hammered because they’re fun people to be around and then go back and play Beatles Rockband. It’s a very different feeling, one that I’m enjoying immensely. This is what the holidays should be about, great people and great times.

If you’ve looked at the cause of the month you’ll have seen it’s to support lung cancer research. I wanted to talk about this in case anyone was wondering why specifically lung cancer and not cancer in general or perhaps why a more controversial cancer. Because lung cancer has a very concrete cause it seems like would be supporters turn away from it because they feel that the victims should have known better and brought it on themselves. What an awful way to think. Why does smoking make you a worse person? I chose lung cancer because around this time six years ago my grandmother passed away due to it. She was an amazing person and didn’t deserve what happened to her. People like her who grew up in a time when smoking was very popular and no one was informed about it’s effects shouldn’t be punished for it. Neither should people today. It’s an addiction, it’s a habit that I don’t like myself, but it shouldn’t condemn a person. Even if what I’ve said doesn’t convince you to make a donation to the foundation I’ve linked to, please consider donating to another research foundation.

On a lighter note I saw Inglorious Basterds. I can’t say that I liked it more than Pulp Fiction because they are very different movies and not very comparable. Pulp Fiction is still one of my favorites and probably my favorite Tarentino movie but he did an excellent job with Basterds. What I enjoyed about it was that he didn’t make WWII or Nazi Germany into a joke. There was a solid story there and the characters were funny at times, the violence was again over the top but there was also a lot of suspense and “Oh shit!” moments where you worried about the characters. It’s definitely worth seeing.

That’s it for now, off to put in some hours at work and then start the xmas themed pages!

Day of Remembrance

day-of-remembrance

I always have trouble remembering the date of this day but late or not it’s worth talking about. For those who don’t know the Day of Remembrance is one day of the year that brings attention to the victims of transgender/gay hate crimes. Every year there are reported murders of men and women who are murdered for being transgender or gay or bisexual or any other deviation from heterosexuality. Even though it’s 2009 people are still being killed for this. It’s unacceptable and horrendous that this could ever happen and even more so that it still happens. I believe that taking any action at all is a step forward in making sure these crimes are 1) justly punished and 2) stopped forever. If you feel even slightly the way I do visit this site: http://www.gender.org/remember/day/.

A lot of artists show their support with moving pictures every year. To see a couple go to Venus Envy or Between the Lines, you can use the links on the right, and see the amazing artwork they’ve created.

Lost Touch

lost-touch

If anyone was visiting during the downtime the site went through I apologize, even though it wasn’t my fault. The site that hosts this one was down as well and while it would have been nice to contact them, I haven’t found any contact information yet. Hopefully it won’t happen again, but servers aren’t 100% reliable all the time so hopefully next time it happens the site’ll come back up quickly.

For the next two weeks I will be drowning in work while we try to meet deadlines. It should let up after next week a little but until then there will be no comic updates. Well there might be one for Kill K. We’ll see. With any luck things will go back to being normal afterwards and maybe someday I can take a vacation.

Thanks to everyone who supports me on deviantArt, it gives me a great boost in confidence and motivation to see other people looking at my artwork and favoriting it.

Please take a look at this month’s cause to Feed America. Taking food to a local drive is easy and you help the country take care of itself a little. If you’re really saintly you can even volunteer.

That’s it!

Anime: Record of Lodoss War
Music: Dir en Grey – Bottom of the Death Valley
